The Muff Deux is based on the lost schematic of a dual op-amp fuzz designed by Big Muff creator Bob Meyer.
This circuit sounds very different from a typical Muff-style fuzz. The gain is wooly, with a huge low-end punch that makes chords sound massive and gritty, while leads are pronounced and cut through with mid-forward clarity.
One of the most unique aspects of the circuit is the almost bass-like clean tone sitting underneath all the fuzz.
The pedal excels at huge, gritty, gnarly chords and also works exceptionally well on bass.
